We are dedicated to providing a range of breeding services for those using traditional breeds of grazing animals to realise their critical role in addressing the needs of modern stock farming and maintaining and enhancing traditional open landscapes.
Winkwell Rare Breeds was set up in 1977 in Hertfordshire and relocated to the Northumberland National Park in 1990.
Since that time our focus has been on using rare and traditional breeds for:
- Breed improvement through strategic breeding programme to conserve genetic lines and maintain the valued characteristics of rare and traditional breeds
- Practical conservation grazing to conserve/enhance valued and designated landscapes
- Developing meat products to meet the needs of today’s discerning customers
